PTA Afterschool Programs
The PTA sponsored afterschool programs are designed to provide enrichment opportunities to students, to introduce them to new experiences that can support their academic learning.
At Sligo Creek Elementary the PTA coordinates three sessions a year, with 8-12 offerings each session. The Fall session will run for 8-10 weeks, from the beginning of October to early December. The winter session will run from January-March, and the spring session from April-June.
The mix of offerings is designed to cater to the various interests of students across grades and talents, from sports classes to arts and drama, science and Chinese language. We have tried to balance offerings by grade level and to spread the classes throughout the week.
Sligo Creek Elementary offers a unique Mandarin Chinese language class in the afterschool program. This class meets twice a week for a total of four hours per week, and last from October to May for a total of 52 classes. It is a convenient, fun, affordable way for students to begin to learn this language that is spoken by more people than any other language in the world.

PTA Scholarships
To encourage the use of the afterschool programs by students throughout the school, the PTA has scholarship funds available to assist families to pay for a class. The PTA has also negotiated with several of our afterschool program providers to offer scholarships as well. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like a partial or full scholarship – don’t hesitate to request assistance, we all know the economy is tough right now, and we want students to still be able to participate.
Ideas or Suggestions
